Centred Horseplay - When Talking Isn't Working
Centred Horseplay is a registered charity and fully approved Gloucestershire Hub for world renowned charity TheHorseCourse, we are situated in the heart of the Cotswolds just outside Cirencester from where we have been delivering TheHorseCourse for young people and other specified cohorts such as D&A Rehabilitation clients since early 2015. Supported by funding from The Big Lottery - Awards for All, The Police & Crime Commissioner and Zurich Trust Fund among others, we have been able to offer full and part funded places where statutory funding has not been available.
With easy access off the A417, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Fairford, Stroud, North Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean are all within easy reach of our facility. What we do is NEW and it WORKS! 8 out of every ten young people we work with WILL do better in school – AND in their relationships with peers, family and professionals. Thanks to these organisations and others we currently have funding available for 2018, if you or your colleagues have a client you would like to refer please contact: Jackie Evans on 07771814851 or email thehorsecourse@centredhorseplay.org.uk |
TheHorseCourse

TheHorseCourse is a registered charity founded by Harriet Laurie in Dorset, it is an equine assisted behavioural change programme delivered both in prison and now in the wider community throughout the UK. Our charitable purpose is to reduce social exclusion through horse-assisted interventions, In addition we aim to widely disseminate what is found to be effective, raising standards in this field. We have developed a behaviour change programme based on natural horsemanship principles. We transfer successful behavioural training techniques for equines into the human world, enabling us to shape difficult behaviour using non-verbal strategies which seem to be more acceptable to those who struggle with conventional interventions.
Having proven our work in prisons, we have now established a busy community-based HQ near Weymouth, Dorset, UK. Employing 3 facilitators and 14 horses, we work primarily with young people 8-24yrs old and families, with an additional project working with drug & alcohol misuse. Eleven facilitators so far are trained and approved to replicate our method and we are working hard to support them in setting up their own centres around the UK, with funding being the greatest hurdle. Our Gloucester centre is getting busy, working with similar cohorts. Centres are now open in Barnet, North London; Wiltshire and Surrey.
